The history of pearls dates back to 4200 BC when the Ancient Egyptians used Mother of Pearl for decoration.
The use of actual pearls is thought to have started with the Persian empire with the oldest known piece of jewellery – a necklace – found in the tomb of an ancient Persian Queen over 2400 years ago.
Pearls were also popular with the Romans for jewellery, clothing & upholstery. They were so sacred Julius Caeser only permitted aristocrats to wear them.

Pearls are also synonymous with weddings due to many folklore tales from Ancient Greeks gifting brides pearls to stop them from crying and the god Krishna gifting a pearl to his daughter on her wedding day.
This long tradition paired with the fact that every pearl has its own unique ‘fingerprint’ make pearls perfect for your wedding day to symbolise your one of a kind love.

Our collection is made from freshwater pearls (baroque) – these make up the majority worldwide.
Most pearls are cultivated and take a minimum of 10 months to grow.
Only 1% of the worlds pearls are natural – making them very rare and expensive.
The most expensive natural pearl was found in 2016 at a value of $100 million which was 26 inches long and weighed over 5 stone.
